Karen's stance on Environment
On the River Walk: The new DCR (Department of Conservation and
Recreation) replaces the old MDC (Metropolitan District Commission). MDC
was responsible jointly with Waltham for the River Walk – with the DCR
reorganization, we need to redefine that.
The goal with the River Walk – and with all Charles River areas
-- should be to keep it safe, clean, and accessible, with community
support.
We should work with the new office of Public Private Partnership
under the state Executive Office of Environmental Affairs.
I support public-private partnerships like land trusts, where
Waltham or a non-profit organization accept land donations from private
developers and hold them in trust.
Beware of corporate castoffs in land donations which might affect
the city.
